ORINDA

The new house was designed around a series of courtyards that connected nearly every room to the outdoors. Despite the lavish details of the interior, the original builder neglected to finish any of outdoors instead exposing the concrete slab. Especially glaring was the open archway off the front door patio–where the afternoon winds driven by the fog often blew in–looked out onto the neighbor's house.

Studio Z managed the installation and finishing details of this custom metal gate augmented by 3form colored resin, new exterior lighting, and installation of tile throughout the 1700 sq/ft of exterior patios. The ordinary concrete slabs were covered with hand-made Mexican concrete tile with central areas highlighted with tiled rugs.
